June 10 - Government To Eradicate Sale Of Tobacco In Housing Estates

The Government is set to eradicate completely the sale of tobacco in Glacis and Laguna Estates through the termination of existing retail tobacco licences. The Government will support, in the public interest, applications to transfer the existing retail tobacco licences to areas that are primarily non-residential.

The Government’s action means that it will not be possible for the existing retail outlets in Laguna or Glacis Estates to sell tobacco at all other than in vending machines. A short period of time will be allowed so that alternative premises in suitable locations can be identified for this purpose.

June 10 - Chief Minister To Address United Nations Committee Of 24

The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia leave for the United Nations in New York tomorrow. This is in line with the policy of the Government to continue to address the United Nations Committee of 24 at its June session and the United Nations 4th Committee in October.

The Annual General Meeting of the National Association of Police Well-being Advisers, NAPWA, was held on 3rd June in Oxford in the United Kingdom.

At the meeting current Chairman the Royal Gibraltar Police’s PC Henry Sacramento was re-elected as Chairman for a further year.

June 10 - Drug Arrests At Sea

Officers of the Royal Gibraltar Police's Marine Section  last night detained four Spanish nationals for drugs offences following a chase at sea.

Following receipt of information that there was a suspect vessel travelling in BGTW and heading into the bay the RGP proceeded to intercept it. The chase headed west straying into Spanish waters at which point the vessel was detained.
