Oct 11 - Feetham Welcomes Picardo’s Position on 2006 Constitution and Cordoba Agreement

feethamFollowing the Chief Minister’s speech to the US Council on Foreign Relations this week, the Opposition has welcomed his statement that the ‘2006 Constitution has given Gibraltar so much autonomy that we believe that this could be the maximum level of self-government short of independence and there is no political move to seek independence in Gibraltar" and that the Cordoba Agreement was "very positive’.

The party claims that Mr. Picardo’s position, is now ‘indistinguishable from the long held position of the GSD, on these two important issues.’

Oct 11 - Unite Sends Open Letter To GGCA Members On Customs Rotation

The following letter was sent to GGCA members by Unite the Union:

Re – Internal Rotation.

Over the last few days much has been said in relation to the issue of rotation in the Customs Department. The issue is not one of Unite vs. GGCA but rather one of Natural Justice. Unite is of the opinion that it is important for Unionised and non Unionised labour to be clear as to the facts surrounding this issue, in order to avoid misleading statements.

Oct 11 - Ellul-Hammond to Question Care Service During October Parliament Session

parliamentAt next week’s sitting of Parliament, Isobel Ellul-Hammond, Opposition Spokesman for Health, will be asking how the new GHA management structure will work, whether the Consultants’ Contract has been resolved and how the new GHA Complaints Process will work in tandem with the Ombudsman Service. 

Consideration of banning smoking in outdoor ‘eating areas’ will be asked for as well as an update on manifesto commitments for separate sex hospital wards and a Stroke Unit.  Mrs Ellul-Hammond will seek figures on those, while in the care of St Bernard’s Hospital, have been admitted to the ICU for dehydration and on how many in-patients pay for a private carer, independently or from one of the two private care providers, in order to attend to their basic needs of feeding and washing during their stay in the hospital.
