Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
The Government has informed that no meeting of Parliament will be held this month, due to ongoing refurbishment works inside the Parliament building. Both the Speaker and Leader of the Opposition have agreed that the next meeting should be hosted in October.
An addition prize is set to be awarded at this year’s 41st Gibraltar International Art Competition. The Gibraltar Museum Gorham’s Cave Award will be aimed at highlighting awareness of Gibraltar’s bid to inscribe this cave on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The award is particularly relevant given last week’s international announcement that Gorham’s Cave had produced the first discovery in the world of a Neanderthal rock engraving.
The annual Calpe Conference commences next Thursday 18th September, at the John Mackintosh Hall. This year promises to be a very special occasion as it brings together world specialists on the themes of human evolution and also world heritage. It is especially relevant given Gibraltar’s current bid to nominate the Neanderthal caves for UNESCO World Heritage Status.
