Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
The GSD this week approved a new party Constitution updating their original policy, agreed upon in 1990, during the constitution of the Party. During a meeting of the Executive it was decided that the new constitution should ‘open up democracy further within the Party’, with changes dealing with elections of Executive Committee members and the election of the Leader of the party. The Leader of the Party will now be voted by the membership and the Executive and the Executive of the GSD after every General Election, as part of a weighted 60% (members) and 40% (Executive) system.
Questioning UK Minister for Europe David Lidington on Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Labour MP for Heywood and Middleton Jim Dobbin requested information in Parliament yesterday on whether any Minister or official had agreed or taken any steps to restart talks with Spain on the sovereignty of Gibraltar under the Brussels Process or any other bilateral process.
A delegation of the newly formed Unite Young Members Committee will be travelling to the United Kingdom – Esher Place on the 18th November 2013 to attend a course of young members.
This course focuses on Unite organising Strategy, Community Activism and the key issues young people face in the workplace and wider community.
