Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
The Equality Rights Group has announced the start of an open community-wide Consultation exercise regarding whether it should campaign for the right to a sexual orientation-neutral marriage law, as opposed to the present civil partnership provisions. This would mean another step in social rights and require further campaigning on this matter by ERG.
The GSD notes the recent Alzheimer’s and Dementia Awareness Day in Gibraltar and the fact that the ‘Gibraltar Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society’ have been raising awareness all week to better inform the public of the impact this illness brings, to try and dispel some of the stigma surrounding it, how every year it affects more and more people and that the society has asked for Government to make Dementia a priority in the political agenda.
