Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
The GSD says it has cautiously welcomed the British Government’s recent announcement that it had reached an “agreement in principle to the terms for talks and are discussing with both the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of Gibraltar how and when talks can be organised.” The Leader of the Opposition Daniel Feetham also added that “above all, however, we wish the Government every success in these talks. Party politics is one thing but the future of this community is far more important”.
On the occasion of the Annual Civil Society Awards in May this year, the Equality Rights Group announced the commencement of a significant initiative aiming to increase the opportunity of ordinary citizens to be able to avail themselves of proper and full legal representation free of charge in circumstances where, normally, they might fail to qualify for Legal Aid or Assistance.
