Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Following great speculation after the Rock Cup final last week the GFA has officially announced that College Europa FC will represent Gibraltar in UEFA’s Europa League, this season. Initial reports stated that Manchester 62 FC, the league runner’s up would play in the League, however, UEFA’s Europa League rules go against the policy adopted by the GFA, that the League spot would go to the local league’s runner up. UEFA’s rules however state that the domestic cup runner-up qualifies for the UEFA Europa League.
This year's Equality Rights Group Awards for human and civil rights in Gibraltar (established last year) have been presented to local NGO's ‘Disability Society’ and ‘Dignity At Work (DAWN)’. With a special, separate posthumous award to the late Agnes Valarino, for her pioneering disability-centred work. Her husband, Maurice Valarino accepted the plaque.
This morning, 49-year-old Spanish National Jose Luis Gonzalez Castaño appeared before the Magistrate’s Court following his arrest yesterday. He was found to be carrying a total of 3960 cigarettes when his car was stopped and searched by RGP officers at the Frontier.
