European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
In response to the GSD’s most recent statement on the Government’s GHA Complaints board announcement, No.6 Convent Place noted that GSD spokesperson Mrs Isobel Ellul-Hammond ‘seems to think that appointees of the present Government are not capable of independent and conscientious thought but persons that the GSD appointed, when in power, are’.
Today marked the last working day in the Chief Minister’s Brussels Trip. The Gibraltar delegation have had over 20 meetings in the space of 48 hours, a tightly packed schedule which included working lunches and dinners since they arrived. The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Joseph Garcia said that the recent trips to Brussels by concerned citizens had really made an impact and gave the Commission a different view point.
Following their decision to scale back operations in Gibraltar, and to close their Main Street branch later this year, Barclays has today announced that they will delay issuing notices of account closure until September 2014, when the Government has pledged to open the doors of the Gibraltar National Bank.
