Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
The GSD is once again calling upon the Government to provide details of the private employers who currently employ trainees on the Future Job Strategy. The party claims that they have previously criticised whether the scheme is providing adequate training and its huge expense of £1 million a month. They have also brought about questions on whether suitable and secure jobs are being provided. They note that serious concerns are heightened by the Government’s failure to provide basic information on the scheme.
The Government is in the process of making preparations to have the disused Incinerator at Europa Advance Road demolished. As a result, the site, which has been used as a holding facility for the onward disposal of scrap metal and other bulky items, has now been closed.
Continuing with his familiarisation of British Forces Gibraltar, Lieutenant General Sir James Dutton, the Governor and Commander-in-Chief, recently paid visit to the RG TA and RG Band & Corps of Drums.
The RG Band & Corps of Drums gave the Governor a rendition of the Gibraltar National Anthem after which he thanked them for the personal performance and remarked on their continued support and dedication to both the RG and Gibraltar.
