European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
The GSD has released the following statement to coincide with the UN’s ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women’ which is marked today:
Today is about speaking out on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence globally. A day to reflect on the extent of such a blight in our own society, to raise awareness about what domestic violence exactly is and to suggest ways forward in order to address the problem. Today serves as a reminder of the work that remains ahead of us.
Walking into the Cookhouse in the Forward Operating Base in Jebel Sahara really is a massive morale boost. Despite the soaring temperatures outside it always feels cool and clean inside and there is a constant supply of hot and cold drinks.
It’s 7am and the chefs are serving breakfast which has a choice of a Full English breakfast, toast, breakfast cereals and eggs a multitude of ways. The food is hot and plentiful, but in order for this to be available, some chefs have been on shift since 4am to prepare the food.
Coinciding with the signing of the Gibraltar-UK Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) to improve international tax compliance on 21 November 2013, the OECD announced that the United Kingdom had deposited declarations extending the territorial scope of the OECD and Council of Europe Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters to cover Gibraltar.
The GSD has this afternoon claimed that they receive continuing reports from members of the public about Barbary Macaques roaming into urban areas. An Opposition statement on the matter read, ‘Worryingly, some of these reports are about macaques in children’s playgrounds. In a particular incident in the Moorish Castle Estate playground, a pack of macaques were fighting aggressively between themselves in their search for food within the refuse containers nearby.
