Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Commenting on yesterday’s three-hour queues entering Gibraltar, the Governor has insisted that intense diplomatic activity has been conducted at the highest level. He noted that the Government of Gibraltar has been working very closely with the UK Government. He welcomes the interventions by the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary and their unwavering support for Gibraltar at this time of heightened tension.
Following on from the arrest of three Spanish nationals and three locals in the early hours of Wednesday the 7th of August 2013 a number of search warrants have been executed throughout the day. Three residences and one store have been searched with 40000 cigarettes being seized within the store.
Within the detained vessel “San Francisco” with registration number 3 – AL - 3276 a further six boxes of tobacco totalling 60000 cigarettes were found and seized.
