Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Denis Matthews of the Self-Determination for Gibraltar Group has addressed the UN Decolonisation Committee of 24 in New York.
Mr Matthews started by explaining the history of the Gibraltarian people saying that immigrant communities from Malta and Genoa settled in Gibraltar and have together created a community with a “unique identity” that repudiates Spain’s claim.
Just a few moments ago, in New York, the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo addressed the UN’s Committee of 24. Mr Picardo argued that the approach and language adopted by Spain with regards to the Gibraltar situation had “no place in the modern world” and reflected a “medieval obsession.”
Tonight will see the return of the student phenomenon, ‘Wild Wednesdays’ at local nightclub, Sunset Gibraltar. The midweek night of madness promises cheap drinks and quality music.
Although the weekday night of choice was formally Thursdays, Wild Wednesday was launched three years ago in an effort to host a night solely for students who have returned home from studying in the UK.
