European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, together with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo, met in Brussels earlier today.
With regards to the Sunborn Flotel Project, the GSD has taken note of the Government’s reply. They insist that the Government’s recent statement is ‘yet another stark illustration of the extent to which the GSLP's "a New Dawn" election mantra in 2011 is proving to be a “False Dawn”. This Government’s defence to practically every criticism is, generally, ‘we’re only doing what the previous administration did before us,’ i.e., ‘everything that we so vocally criticised before we edged into office in December 2011 is now fair game...’
Be that as it may, the Opposition notes that the Government has omitted to answer any of the questions raised in the Opposition’s original statement and will, for the avoidance of doubt, repeat them in a concise manner:
In an effort to clamp down on tobacco related activity in a number of housing Estates, the RGP has been carrying out ‘Operation Kalia’, an intelligence led operation, which targets specific areas based on informed assessments.
In April, a total of twenty four tobacco related arrests were made, including c6 arrests for concealment of tobacco along Winston Churchill Avenue, 2 arrests for possession of a commercial quantity of tobacco along Winston Churchill Avenue, 8 arrests for possession by the ICC, 2 arrests along Europa Road, 3 by Eastern Beach, one on Devil’s Tower Road, one at Europa Point and one in Glacis Estate.
The Spring Fest Acoustic Night, to be held on 31st May at the Bayside Sports Complex will see a number of local artists showcase their talent. The event, to be held from 8pm – 12am includes acoustic performances by Stephen Mclaren and Adrian Pozo of Area52 and Nolan Frendo of Jetstream.
