June 18 - Kids Rock - The Concert

Summer is upon and Santos Productions are preparing a production “Kids Rock…The Concert”.  This show is a follow up to their successful musical play “Kids Rock” in 2011. This time it is just a concert featuring the latest pop hits and some older classics we all love.  It also features the Santos Productions Choir who will be presenting the pieces they will be competing with at the European Choir Games in Graz, Austria.  This choir has become very popular in the past few years having performed at the GFA UEFA Celebrations, the May Day Celebrations and the Diamond Jubilee Variety Show.

June 18 - Knit Gibraltar Celebrate Knit In Public Day

Last Saturday Knit Gibraltar celebrated World Wide Knit In Public (WWKIP) Day. The front of the Post Office was the venue for an afternoon of knitting, teaching, chatting, eating home-made cakes, and collecting for the Gibraltar Clubhouse - supporting people with mental illnesses. To mark the occasion, the main Post Box was "yarnbombed" - covered in knitting and crochet.

June 18 - Government Statement On Queen's Birthday Honours

HM Government of Gibraltar has noted with pleasure the award to Gibraltarians of a total of 9 state honours, the highest number awarded in any Overseas Territory this year.

Commenting on the main awards, Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, said:

“I sincerely welcome that Sir Peter Caruana QC’s effort and hard work at the head of our community has been rightly recognised by the award of KCMG for service to Gibraltar and, despite our political differences, I congratulate him for this distinction. There is no doubt that, now that he has retired from front line politics, this was an appropriate time to recognise his dedication to the discharge of his obligations of the role in Chief Minister for almost 16 years and the development of our Nation in that time”.

Jun 18 Gibraltar in Treaty of Utrecht Exhibition at European Parliament

Treaty Of UtrechtThis week, HM Government of Gibraltar is marking the 300th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Utrecht with an exhibition stand at the European Parliament in Brussels. The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia will visit the stand later on this week when he goes to Brussels in order to meet EU officials and MEPs.

The Treaty, which was a general peace settlement that followed theWar of the Spanish Succession, was signed in 1713. Article X of the Treaty is the one that refers to Gibraltar. It says, among other things, that the Kingdom of Spain ceded Gibraltar to the Crown of Great Britain “to be held and enjoyed absolutely with all manner of right for ever, without any exception or impediment whatsoever.”

The large ‘S–shaped’ exhibition stand is laid out in four ‘zones’ which focus on Gibraltar’s History, its People, its Commerce and its relationship with Europe. Each zone will incorporate two iPads carrying more detailed information and this information will also be carried in small booklets which will be available for visitors to take away from the stand.
