Jun 10 - John Gonçalves Voted New Chairman for Police Authority

police authorityCurrent Chairman of the Gibraltar Police Authority, Richard Garcia recently made way for the newly appointed Mr. John Gonçalves who was selected by the Specific Appointments Commissioner.

Mr. Garcia was thanked for all of his work as Chairman of the Authority, which acts as an essential element of the constitutional architecture as it ensures the operational independence of the RGP. Commenting on the matter, the Chief Minister explained that he was very grateful to Mr. Garcia for his outstanding work in the role. He added, ‘on behalf of the whole community I wish to thank him for his commitment to the task and to congratulate him for his undoubted achievements over the two years he has spent as Chairman.’

June 10 - ‘Dress Down’ Day Raises Money For Cancer Relief Centre

dressBayside Comprehensive School recently held a ‘Dress Down’ day in aid of the Gibraltar Society for Cancer Relief as part of the Operation Daffodil Bike Challenge which will start from Norway, just inside the Arctic Circle, and end in Gibraltar in August 2013.

Harry Meenagh, a student at Bayside School, will be cycling part of the journey with the team which includes his father, Wayne. In support of Harry’s efforts, nearly £600 was raised by Bayside students, money which will help fund the following services at the new Cancer Relief Centre:

June 10 - Leadership Skills Event

leaddA group of Management students from Gibraltar College recently took part in a Leadership Day in the Spanish town of Benaojan. The Level 3 and Level 5 students are undergoing a diploma course in Leadership and Management from the Chartered Management Institute, the only chartered professional body dedicated to management and leadership. The course which is being delivered at Gibraltar College, aims to develop the management skills and practices of professionals.

Jun 10 - Friends of Gibraltar Society on the Rock

friends of gibraltarThis morning, a brunch was hosted at the Mayor's Parlour for the Friends of Gibraltar Society, as well as the Heritage Trust. The Friends of Gibraltar is a registered charity made up of many individuals who hold links with Gibraltar, be it through business, marriage, or having spent a stint living on the Rock.

His Worship the Mayor presented recently appointed Mayor of the Test Valley Borough Council, Mrs. Janet Whiteley with a Gibraltar Crystal Paper weight. On behalf of the Society, Mayor Whitely handed Mayor Tony Lima one of their ties.
