Apr 25 - Tradewinds Tenants Oppose Floating Hotel

sunbornDuring this morning’s meeting of the Development and Planning Commission, the proposed Government project, to berth a Super Yacht Flotel at Marina Bay, stirred an extensive debate, with one resident of Tradewinds completely opposing the plan due to its almost inevitable issues of increased vehicular traffic in the Ocean Village area, as well the matter of reclaimed land by the Gala Casino, which would act as a car park for the hotel.

The floating structure will have 167 guest rooms, along with bars, restaurants, conference rooms, a spa and a gym, and is set to be berthed behind the Gala Casino, parallel to Marina Bay. The ship, the Deputy Town Planner explained, is set to be 140 meters long.

Apr 25 - Business Support Unit Hosts Seminar on Internet Shopping and Its Affect on Local Retailers

internet shoppingAs part of the Government’s initiative to set up a number of consumer protection seminars, the first was hosted today, informing main street retailers on the issues of Internet shopping and how it affects local retailers. Craig Sacarello of the GFSB, along with Ed Mcquisten of the Chamber of Commerce, headed the seminar, which aimed to highlight the importance of devising a strategy to bring the retail sector forward in order to reduce online sales. The seminar was well attended and will make way to a further series of sessions that aim to improve Gibraltar’s consumer and retail sectors.

Apr 25 A Busy Summer For The Airport

Gibraltar AirportGibraltar International Airport (GIB) is gearing up for a busy Summer 2013 season.

The season, which officially started on Sunday 31st March and runs through to Saturday 26th October, will be the first summer where operations are fully handled from the new terminal building. More than 1,800 flights are planned with 300,444 seats available to 5 destinations until the end of October.

The public will recall the introduction of a 3 times weekly service to Birmingham by Monarch Airlines launched on Saturday 23 March and operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Monarch Airlines will also introduce an additional 4th weekly service from Manchester to Gibraltar on Sundays (starting 26th May) adding to the existing services on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
