Gibraltar’s representation at the Labour Party Conference continued yesterday evening with the Gibraltar Reception hosted by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and featuring a keynote speech by the UK Minister for Europe and the Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty MP.
Spain has this week clamped down heavily on its zero tolerance approach to drink driving. The Olive Press notes that fines for any individual found driving under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs have risen to €1,000. Under-Secretary of the Interior Ministry, Luis Aguilera has stated that the proposal will be tabled before the Cabinet in the next few weeks.

Soldiers from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment met the Prime Minister during his recent visit to troops in Afghanistan. Ten soldiers from the Regiment are currently deployed to Helmand province with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
Gibraltar will once again host its annual ‘Big Latch On’ this Saturday at Café Solo. The event will see mothers gather together to promote breastfeeding in the community. Every year during the first week in August new mothers raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding and the need for global support.
World Breastfeeding Week, is celebrated in 120 countries and marks the signing of the WHO/UNICEF document ‘Innocenti Declaration’, which lists the benefits of breastfeeding, plus global and governmental goals.
